Dry skin
Dry skin is often considered insignificant
and can be ignored. However, if the epidermis is too wet or too dry, it may be
less able to resist infection, friction, and damage.
Dry skin is a common problem caused by the
loss of the skin's natural moisturizers, leading to the loss of water in the
epidermis. The environment plays an important role in this waste of water.
During the winter and using central heating or air conditioning, the skin
easily loses its moisture. Similarly, frequent bathing or use of harsh soaps
may increase the risk of dry skin.
Dry skin is often seen on the legs, soles of
the feet, and less often on the upper body or hands. The skin may be scaly, may
appear dull with gray or white discoloration, or may have raised skin lines. In
severe cases, deep cracks, heat, pain, and redness may be witnessed. The
presence of rough, uneven or cracked skin indicates the need for intervention.
Dry
skin can be classified as mild, moderate or severe. When it is in the mild to
moderate stage, it is easily fixed or controlled.
Dry skin care
Dry skin needs proper care just like wet
skin. The choice of moisturizer is important. For example, moisturizers that
keep moisture in the skin and also smooth the skin surface and reduce friction
on the skin surface are more suitable.
Follow the steps below to take care of dry
skin:
1. Cleanse - gently using a mild skin cleanser with a normal pH
and a soft cloth.
2. Gently dry the skin. Do not rub.
3. Moisturize the skin - if necessary, use a suitable cream or
lotion after bathing. (The cream or lotion used (Zitan) should be easily
absorbed and does not need to be excessively rubbed)
Pressure ulcers
Pressure ulcers can be painful, but they are
treatable and often preventable.
A pressure ulcer, which is also called a bed
sore , is an injury caused by continuous pressure on the skin. Pressure ulcers
occur when blood flow to the area slows or stops. This causes small sections of
tissue to die and form a scar.
Pressure
ulcers usually occur in bony parts of the body. When these bony parts of the
body press against a hard surface, damage to the skin can occur. Hard surfaces
include beds, chairs, or even medical devices such as braces or splints.
