Dermatitis associated with periostomy moisture
Burning
moisture injury: stoma effluent
Inflammation
around the stoma is due to the continuous contact of feces or urine with the
surface of the skin around the stoma.
Interventons:
1. Assess the
cause of the peristomal injury.
2. Prevent any
further damage (eg, cut the ostomy shield to size, change the bag on schedule,
change the bag immediately if there is irritation).
3. Gently wash
the peristoma skin and allow it to dry before installing the new pouch.
4. If the skin is moist and uncomfortable, manage it with a
crusting technique (using ostomy powder and a barrier).
